Diversity and Equality: From Misunderstanding to Inclusion
Toronto, ON
February 28 to March 2, 2008
York University’s Glendon College hosted the Ontario and Quebec Regional Event for the second year in a row. Using highly interactive activities, including a video workshop, a Diversity Dinner, and the Globalia simulation game, developed by the Université Laval Delegation, the event explored the theme of diversity and equality.

Rights & Democracy Network Western Regional Event:
Sports and Human Rights
Winnipeg, Manitoba
March 7-9, 2008
In Winnipeg, the city’s three Delegations (Collège-universitaire Saint-Boniface, University of Winnipeg, and University of Manitoba) co-hosted the Western Regional Event which put the theme of sports of human rights into action with a soccer game where all the participants and organizers got in on the sports action. Other highlights included a global fashion show at Saint-Boniface, stories from the field with Tanissa Martindale of the Right to Play at the University of Manitoba, and Olympic rower Sandra Kirby on protecting the rights of girls in sport at the University of Winnipeg.

Rights and Democracy Network National Retreat
Montreal, Quebec
September 27-30, 2007
Representatives from 24 Delegations across Canada, from the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island to Memorial University of Newfoundland, came together on Notre-Dame de l’Île Perrot, just outside Montreal, from September 27-30, 2007, to learn about human rights, and acquire skills to assist them in building their Delegations.

Understanding, Imagining, Feeling and Experiencing Human Rights: The “On the Refugees’ Path” Experience

The Rights & Democracy Network celebrated its 5th anniversary this year with a very special Network Event from May 1 to 4, 2008 in Montreal. The event began with a gala which honoured the best Delegation projects from the last five years.
The Delegates from 25 Canadian Delegations and the Network’s 2 international Delegations participated in the On the Refugee Trail project (Sur la piste des réfugiés), presented this year by the UQAM Delegation, including the 24 hour refugee camp experience, living the unexpected and difficult conditions that refugees face in daily life,
During the rest of the event, delegates shared their experiences of organizing projects on their campuses, and learned more about the Network, and the many ways of promoting human rights and democracy.
