'Coup de coeur démocratique pour le Burkina Faso' Project

A first pilot project: observation of the Burkina Faso presidential elections (November 2005)

Initiated in the fall of 2004, the internationalization phase of the Network began with a first twinning between the Delegations at the Université de Moncton in New Brunswick and the Université de Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, during the 10th Summit of the Francophonie. After reflection and discussion, the students submitted a project proposal to the Network team entitled “Coup de cœur démocratique pour le Burkina Faso” (Democratic Discovery in Burkina Faso).

The first exchange resulting from this proposition, entitled “Democratic Governance and Electoral Process – Discoveries, Observations, and Cooperation” took place in 2005. Thanks to a partnership between Rights & Democracy, the Université de Moncton and the Université de Ouagadougou, five students from the Université de Moncton, accompanied by their professor, acted as observers of the presidential elections which were held in Burkina Faso on November 13, 2005. This project was made possible thanks to the financial support of the Canada Corps program. In Burkina Faso, they also received significant support from the Canadian Ambassador, as well the staff of the support unit.

This first exchange as part of the twinning between the Rights & Democracy Delegations at the universities of Moncton and Ouagadougou was a success.

Federal Elections 2006 - From Burkina Faso to Canada: Youth perspective

The students proposed a follow-up activity of observing the federal elections in Canada, and this activity has been made possible thanks to the financial support of Rights & Democracy, as part of the ongoing partnership between Rights & Democracy and the Université de Moncton, and thanks to the commitment and sustained energies of the participating students.
